Publishers synopsis: When an unexpected opportunity arises at the orphanage where she works, will Sadie have to choose between marrying her beau and a job she loves?
In "A Home For My Heart", Sadie Sillsby and her long-time friend and intended fiance, Blaine, end up going their seperate ways as each makes a decision without the others knowledge. Blaine buys a farm far sooner than Sadie expected, also taking on a mortgage with it, while Sadie accepts the matron's position at the children's home, a job only designed for unmarried women. She is convinced that because of this, there is no way they can continue to be together, and attempts to move on. However, Sadie finds that Blaine is ever faithful, and ends up surprised at how he's been helping her "behind the scenes" all along.
I really enjoyed Anne Mateer's first book, "Wings of a Dream", and found her second book, "At Every Turn" to be just alright. "A Home For My Heart" was just okay to me, too. I guess, while I enjoyed it, I found the story a bit frustrating. Sadie's issues and they way she handles them seemed redundant and kind of irritating, making me struggle to see her as more than just a shallow character. Of course that is just my reaction to her part in the story based on my own feelings, and it doesn't imply that the story or writing is poor. I did love her heart for the children, and the spiritual emphasis on the importance of allowing people to face the consequences of their actions, while trusting that God is in control.
Again, unrelated to the quality of the story and the writing I DID find the digital copy to be lacking a bit, as most "double" letters were missing, so words like "offered" or "ellicit" appeared as "oered" or "eicit". Like last time, though, you just learn to read it that way.
**I received a free digital copy of this book to review, courtesy of Bethany House Publishers via NetGalley. My opinions are all my own...I may be a people pleaser, but I'm also a control freak, and prefer to use my blogspace for making my thoughts known, not stealing the ideas of others. ;)
