LOVE AND RESPECT IN THE FAMILY by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs

Thanks to Booksneeze, I was given the opportunity to review Dr. Emerson Eggerichs book "Love and Respect in the Family."

I really enjoyed this book.  Normally with books like these I tend to skim a bit and pick up the bits and pieces that are relevant to me, as I have a difficult time staying interested otherwise since because if feels like the main point could be made in half the words.  But I really appreciated the entirety of "Love and Respect in the Family".  So much of it rang true and reminded me that there really is a "cycle" in the family, as Dr. Eggerichs says. (In the book, he calls this the "Family Crazy Cycle", where children if a child feels unloved, they act in ways that make parents feel disrespected, and in turn the parents respond back to the child in ways that bring that "unloved" feeling back to the child...and it goes on and on and on in that way.)

Written around the causes, effects, and prevention of said cycle, "Love and Respect in the Family" is a great parenting resource. Sometimes, as parents, we just need that little reminder even a subtle response to our children made with the wrong attitude can have profound effects on their little hearts...and also, that we CAN change the behaviors of our children in how we react/respond to them.

I would definitely recommend this book for the family library, and it would make a great gift!
